It’s Been Awhile

Hey all,

If you have checked out the site over the past month you likely noticed that nothing has been posted in quite some time. Apologies. I started a new job and my circumstances have changed, preventing me from posting regularly (or in this case at all). Unfortunately for the site I do not see those circumstances changing to any significant degree in the foreseeable future. This is not me saying that I will not be posting anymore and am quitting the site. Just know that posts will be few and far between.

Hey there,

Some of you may already know, but I have been meaning to post something about a new writing opportunity I have recently undertaken. A few weeks ago I agreed to become a staff writer for Halo Hangout, a blog focused on all things related to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. So, I will be writing on Halo Hangout about the team a couple times a week. I have already posted four pieces there. Here are the links if you are interested:

In case anyone is wondering, this isn’t going to effect any of my plans for Wedge Hammer. I will still be writing here just as before. I will probably start linking my pieces for Halo Hangout here as well.

One other thing. Apologies, but I was unable to do this week’s MLB Power Rankings because I had to take care of some personal business early in the week. I plan on having rankings early next week.

Site Update

Hello all,

I just have a quick update about the next week on the site. As you may know I am writing a preview for each Major League Baseball team for the lead-up of the 2012 season. I will be leaving town for nearly a week starting today, Wednesday March 21st. The two remaining previews set to be posted this week, the Arizona Diamondbacks (Thursday 3/22) and New York Yankees (Friday 3/23) will post (hopefully) with no problem. There may be a delay with last five previews (Philadelphia, Detroit, Milwaukee, Texas and St. Louis) because of me being out of town. Rest assured, the previews will be written and posted, they may just not post on the day specified in my initial announcement of the previews. My hope is that there will not be a delay, but I did want to make you aware if there is.

I believe it’s important that the first post for my website explains why I wanted to and ended up starting it. Why did I decide to do this? For starters I have grown to enjoy writing, particularly when it’s on my terms. While I could use Twitter, Facebook, etc. to share and post, I wanted something of my own. Something that was more conducive to long posts. I also like discussion. I like hearing people’s opinions whether I happen to agree or disagree with them. The thing about agreeing or disagreeing with someone else’s opinion, at least for me, is that most of the world is defined by grey area. Sure, there are things that are black and white, but I think much more is grey. People come from wherever they come from, they have experiences, backgrounds, etc. and they take away what they take away from it all. I happen to buy into this notion and find it sort of fascinating. It doesn’t mean I think everyone’s right, but I’m willing to consider a lot if I get the impression there is reasoning behind it. Whether the subject is of real importance or is on the trivial side, my goal is that I will bring some thought and perspective to my opinion(s) in all posts.

What should you expect from this website? I plan on writing about whatever comes to mind, but I figure I will probably end up posting about sports or entertainment/pop culture mostly. Considering that 2012 is an election year, I will probably also touch on politics (I know, dicey issue). I am still thinking through exactly what I want to focus on, but I am hoping for at least one weekly series. I also plan on sharing items I feel are worthy of being shared. This is something I have wanted to do for a really long time. Now, I am in a position to give it the attention needed to make it worthwhile.

Lastly, I owe a few people some big thanks. Thanks to my brothers for helping me brainstorm the website, specifically its name. Also, thanks to Greg Hosilyk who helped me in different areas in getting this thing off the ground. I owe a huge thank you to Josh Cronkhite who setup and configured the entire website. Massive assist on his part. Thanks to you all.
