We’re already a month deep into 2012. How time flies

I am planning on posting a review at the end of each month. I’ll touch on some of the biggest events from the month mostly focusing on news/current events, sports, and pop culture at least for the time being. I expect to write an update on the election in each post as well. Please weigh in on any of the events from the month and/or anything I may not have included.

Thanks and I hope you enjoy. Continue reading →

Over the weekend “Arrested Development” Executive Producer Dean Lorey posted the following on his website:

We’re really doing this thing.  Mitch Hurwitz, Jim Vallely and I are off writing the new season of ARRESTED to premiere on Netflix in 2013.  The original cast is back.  There are offices and parking spaces.  We’re shooting this year.  I wish I could give more specifics but, for the moment, even the schedule is being kept under wraps.  But it’s happening and it’s great to be back with my pals from the show.  More later as it becomes okay to release further details… Continue reading →

In case you haven’t heard Prince Fielder agreed to a nine-year, $214 million contract with the Detroit Tigers yesterday. That’s an average annual salary upwards of $23.7 million. It’s hard to fathom this kind of money, but it most definitely is not foreign to Major League Baseball or professional sports. The absurd amount of money athletes are paid is a discussion for another day. Looking at this deal from a baseball perspective, it doesn’t look promising long-term for the Tigers. Continue reading →

The Lakers are playing a dangerous game.

I like to call it, The Kobe Show.

I’ve seen The Kobe Show before. To be honest, I didn’t really care for it all that much. It was popular back in the mid 2000s, but thankfully went away in early 2008 not to be seen again, until recently. Trust me, a prolonged engagement of the The Kobe Show is bad news. Continue reading →

TV FYI: ‘Justified’ Season 3 Premiere

“Justified” returns tonight on FX at 10 PM (could be a different time depending on provider). In 2011, “Justified” was one of the top 10 television series of the year for me. Following a decent yet unremarkable first season the series took a leap in its second season. I’d consider it among the best dramas on television today. Continue reading →

The Tebow Effect

It didn’t start this season but it certainly went to an unprecedented level. The “it” I write of is the Tim Tebow craze. There is no denying there is much public interest in the Denver Broncos’ starting quarterback. A great many people are without a doubt invested in what he does on and off the football field.  Continue reading →

NFL Divisional Round Picks

The second round of the NFL playoffs is upon us.

The bye factor is in play this weekend which adds some extra spice. How will the home teams play coming off a bye? Will the road teams be able to bring a sense of momentum to this week’s game after a playoff win? It’s the playoffs, the prospect of winning a Super Bowl is enough motivation for a team to play its best, but crazy things happen and sometimes teams (talking about home teams more so here) show up flat for whatever reason. Road teams can build on their first round game too as they start to see the finish line. These sorts of abnormal things happen in this round (which is partly why I feel I am going to be wildly off on at least one of these games).

Quick Notes:

  • The home team is favored by more than a touchdown in three of the four games this week. San Francisco being the exception
  • Three of the four games this week are rematches from the regular season. New Orleans vs. San Francisco being the exception
  • All four road teams went 5-3 on the road during the regular season
  • Two home teams (New England & San Francisco) went 7-1 at home during the regular season
  • Two home teams (Baltimore & Green Bay) were a perfect 8-0 at home during the regular season

Now to the picks.

TV FYI: ’30 Rock’ Returns Tonight

12 Thursday Jan 2012

30 rock, community, nbc, parks and rec, premiere, the office, tv, up all night

Tonight marks the return of one of television’s best comedies (a show I had in my top 10 last year) in “30 Rock.” A network series premiering its sixth season isn’t necessarily huge news but “30 Rock” wasn’t on NBC’s fall lineup and hasn’t aired a new episode since last May. So, I want to pass along the news that the first new episode in a while is airing tonight at 8:00 PM on NBC for those who may not be aware and are interested in watching. I could be wrong, but I believe the entire season will air straight through (meaning no repeats).

I’m looking forward to seeing what “30 Rock” has in store for us in its sixth season including the guest stars they have lined up (the show integrates its guest stars incredibly well). I’m confident “30 Rock” will start out of the gate strong as usual.

“30 Rock” Promo:

P.S. “Parks and Recreation” (TV’s best comedy in my opinion) also returns tonight after the holiday break. Oh, and so do “The Office” and “Up All Night” (two shows I’m indifferent about at this point). All on NBC. If only “Community” was in this block too. Alas.
